The Mid Atlantic Elevator Chapter of NAEC held its annual golf outing last week in Upper Marlboro MD. Attendance was great and the day turned out to be spectacular despite the forecast for rain earlier in the week. 70 Golfers teed it up and enjoyed the camaraderie of the day.
MAEC is hybrid association. When the original group had a difficult time maintaining the momentum, the leadership in the association voted to become the first ever regional chapter of NAEC. Now, when it comes to organizing MAEC events, Shawn Cowden of NAEC headquarters does a lot of the heavy lifting. Shawn was on-site here to see to the details of organizing and dealing with the golf course.
For this event, registration and ticket sales were handled by always smiling Tammy Wright (Quality Elevator) and Cindy Samek (MCE). These two were everywhere during the day.
John Hofbauer (ELCON) was thanked for his past service as Chair of MAEC. Mark Yako (GAL), a member of the leadership committee, and Jeff Kneuer (Innovation Industries), incoming Chair, stepped up to do an outstanding job of hamming and egging it through the awards and presentations. A great time and a lot of laughs were had by all. Consultant Dennis Olsen walked away with the grand prize – a 50” flat screen.
I didn’t take any pictures but I wish I had. I got to spend some time and share an adult beverage with Jack Higgs of Quality Elevator. Not sure when we met but it seems like we go back to childhood together – it is always good to see Jack. Also shared the fairways with Dick Vinciquerra (AFD Industries) and Bob Kazar (Canton Elevator) – two of the good guys in this business.
Upshot – A great day with good elevator people. MAEC, with help from NAEC, is once again a viable association with active participation from the regional players. They are going to host a holiday event that includes vendor displays on December 4th. Teresa and I are going to be there. Contact Shawn at NAEC if you are interested.
